OSUN STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION ON IFE NORTH ELECTRICITY OUTAGE.

In futherance of my efforts toward finding a lasting solution to the total system collapse of the 7.5MVA electricity power substation in our constituency, I moved a motion on the Power outage in Ife North State Constituency and the poor responsiveness of the Electricity Service Provider as a matter of urgent public importance at the plenary today.

I reiterated the untold hardship the power outage has brought on our people and the poor and unacceptable responsiveness of the distribution company to our plight despite several efforts and engagements with the company on how to repair or replace the faulty equipment and restore light.

Electricity is an essential public utility and every citizen deserves to enjoy the facility. Despite the take over of electricity distribution by private companies, the poor service delivery of the Distribution Companies (DisCos) has left most communities frustrated and the people now resort to self-help.

Our distribution company is principally interested in billing and the collection of tariff but not the provision or repair of the equipments they use in generating the tariff. Even when communities struggle to buy transformers on their own, DisCos will still request for money to energize.

I therefore moved a motion that the House of Assembly should summon the Managing Director of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to appear before it on Wednesday, 13th October, 2021 with the aim of resolving the power outage in Ife North and the motion was granted.

It is indeed a major milestone towards restoring electricity in Ife North State constituency and addressing the unsatisfactory attitude of the electricity distribution company to the citizens of our state.
